YouTube and Volunteer Programs

Wednesday, June 3rd, 2009

Come to the 2009 Massachusetts Conference on Service and Volunteering from the Mass Service Alliance June 4 in Marlborough, MA, and you can hear Monique Cuvelier of Talance, Inc., present on how to use YouTube in your volunteering programs. You’ll see some examples of organizations that are doing it well, and how volunteers can help spread awareness.

It’s the special session on social media at the end of the conference. We’ll also be doing a drawing for a $300 Talance gift certificate, which you can use for web development or web strategy consulting, and a copy of Jill Friedman Fixler’s excellent book Boomer Volunteer Engagement: Collaborate Today, Thrive Tomorrow, published by Volunteer Match.

Plus you can pick up a free – yes, free! – copy of our 2009 Massachusetts Non-Profit Social Media Report at our table in the poster session.

Hope to see you there!

Social Media Conference List

Thursday, January 22nd, 2009

The world of social media moves so fast that it’s easy to be confused by what’s new. A good way to keep track of innovations and what’s working is by hitting a local conference.

This list from the Socialmedia.biz blog is a handy resource for yearly conference planning.

Scholarships to NTEN Conference

Friday, January 16th, 2009

I really like NTEN (check out this article I wrote for them), so I was glad to see they’re giving scholarships to the conference in San Francisco from April 26-28. They’re also collecting unused frequent flyer miles so you might score a free airline ticket as well.

Notes from a Nonprofit Conference

Tuesday, October 28th, 2008

Just off the chute of the Massachusetts Nonprofit Network conference in Boston – great networking with some of the charitable organizations in the area. A few quick tech takeaways:

  • No one knows the term “microblogging,” but they’ve heard of Twitter. (Hint, Twitter is a microblogging app. Same with Plurk. Follow me.)
  • Few organizations are happy with their website as it stands.
  • Everyone’s interested in social media but have no idea where to begin learning about it (Hint: if you’re a Massachusetts congregation, here’s your chance.)
  • The older generations are in a totally different place when it comes to being online than the younger generations, but at least they know it.

Meet Me in Massachusetts

Tuesday, October 21st, 2008

Good news! I’ll be making an in-person appearance at the Massachusetts Nonprofit Network conference on October 24 at Bentley College. Talance will have a table, and I’ll also be giving a mini-presentation on Web Mistakes That Could Cost You.

Let me know if you’ll be there (the comments box below is handy for this), and we’ll connect.
